A Maine woman who went to California to see her transitioning son ended up dead in his home from a vicious attack, police say.

Angela Caprioli, 61, was allegedly beaten to death with a hammer last week while visiting her son in Laguna Beach.

Safford James Wolfson, 36, shown in New York Post photos as partly resembling a female, entered no plea during his first court appearance.

Wolfson was hospitalized with self-inflicted injuries after allegedly murdering his mother and slicing his own neck.

Police say Wolfson ‘s grandmother called 911 after coming upon a gruesome bloody scene in his house.

Investigators said the grandmother first found Wolfson lying on the floor covered in blood before discovering Caprioli in a bedroom with grisly injuries to her head and face.

Neighbor Dustin Pettit told The California Post that he witnessed Wolfson and Caprioli involved in a tense argument before the alleged killing, according to the New York Post.

“I saw her outside talking with him and it seemed like a pretty hostile conversation,” Pettit was quoted.

The town of Caprioli’s residence wasn’t specified but authorities said she lived in Maine.

Wolfson has publicly identified as transgender in social media profiles, according to media reports.

An X account with Wolfson’s name described the owner as a “trans girl looking for fun in LA,” while another profile allegedly associated with the suspect showed him wearing dresses, miniskirts and crop tops.
