The Lewiston Police Department arrested a 45-year-old homeless felon on Sunday after discovering that he allegedly shot himself in the hand with a firearm while mishandling it.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Derek Bourdon, 45, homeless, arrived at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Lewiston with a gunshot wound in his hand.

Police responded to investigate the situation.

Bourdon reportedly refused to cooperate with police and would not tell them how he sustained his injury or where the shooting took place.

Police investigated the incident using Flock cameras—controversial AI-enabled surveillance cameras—and located the vehicle used to transport Bourdon to the hospital.

The vehicle was a rental car that had been abandoned.

The cameras also led officers to the location of the shooting at 115 Bartlett Street.

Investigators allegedly determined that Bourdon, a felon, had shot himself while mishandling a firearm that he was not permitted to have.

He was arrested and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
