At approximately 10:11 a.m., the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department dispatched deputies to Peru following a report of criminal mischief involving property damage to vehicles and terrorizing.

Deputies investigating the complaint identified Bert Holmquist, 43, of Peru, as an alleged suspect and eventually located him at his residence.

Holmquist then allegedly confronted deputies while armed with an axe and a machete and was ultimately placed under arrest.

He was placed in the back of an Oxford County cruiser after his arrest, where he allegedly caused extensive damage to the vehicle and broke its rear window.

He then allegedly continued to be aggressive and assaulted two deputies, causing minor injuries. The deputies were treated on scene and released, and Holmquist was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Holmquist was then discharged back into custody and transported to the Oxford County Jail.

He was booked on charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, aggravated criminal mischief, terrorizing, criminal mischief, two counts of assault, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.

During the booking process, Holmquist allegedly continued his aggressive behavior and damaged property inside the jail. Additional charges are pending against him.
