‘What A Drag:’ Maine’s Democrat Governor Plays Dress Up While Lewiston Burns – And Press Herald Laughs

While The Maine Wire is attempting to get the state’s see-no-evil, hear-no-evil lame-duck governor to actually do her job, the state’s daily newspaper of record is finding it all quite funny.

“Gov. Mills is having fun at Maine theaters” is an actual headline from Thursday’s rag of record.

While Jon Fetherston of The Maine Wire is reporting a serious piece about Janet Mills completely ignoring the growing gun violence in the state’s second-largest city, the Portland Press Herald is lapping up her string of visits to Maine theaters.

“Mills, who ended her campaign for U.S. Senate in April, dressed up in period costume to visit with the cast of the musical ‘1776’ at the Maine State Music Theatre this week,” reports the paper’s Rachel Ohm.

“She dressed in Revolutionary War-era attire for a post-performance meet-and-greet with the cast.

““Last week, Gov. Janet Mills joined a Beatles tribute band on stage at the Strand Theatre in Rockland, belting out the rousing chorus to ‘All You Need is Love.’”

Can’t make it up folks.

But it gets even more bizarre.

“The governor, who is entering her final six months in office, has been in the public eye far less since exiting the race, though her recent activities indicate she’s taking the turn of events in the Senate race in stride, and perhaps even relaxing a bit.” – Rachel Ohm, Portland Press Herald

“Been in the public eye far less” is the paper’s humorous way of letting 78-year-old Janet off the hook.

And here’s the best part from the Portland Press Herald:

“Spokespeople for Mills did not respond Thursday to a request for comment.” – Rachel Ohm, Portland Press Herald

Seriously?

“Request for comment” on dressing up in Revolutionary War garb?

“Hi Governor it’s Rachel at the Press Herald. Just a quickie – like, how much fun are you having? Oh, and, while I’m on it, how much fun do you think they’re having in Lewiston dodging gunfire while you’re yukking it up dressing up as George Washington?”

Maybe Janet’s comms team is dodging Rachel because they’re afraid Maine voters will think the elderly, do-nothing Janet is actually old and frail enough to have been on the battlefield back in, say, 1776.

Meanwhile Lewiston is waiting for answers while 1776 Janet dresses up – and behaves – like a 6-year-old girl.

“Where Is Governor Janet Mills? Lewiston Residents Continue Waiting for Leadership as Youth Gun Violence Escalates – Jon Fetherston, The Maine Wire

Janet has no plan, that is why this Democrat is keeping a low profile. Where is Pingree’s plan? And her rich Mothers plan?
