The Maine State Fire Marshal arrested a Harrington man on Tuesday after he allegedly destroyed a home with an incendiary device and concealed the cause from investigators.

On July 17, the Maine Forest Service and Harrington Fire Department called the Fire Marshal to assist with an investigation into the cause of a structure fire at 1230 Main Street in Harrington.

Initial reports suggested that the fire was caused by an outdoor burn that spread to the home.

A detailed examination of the scene, along with numerous witness interviews, told a different story.

The investigation revealed that the fire was actually caused by an incendiary device, not by accidental outdoor burning.

Investigators then obtained an arrest warrant for Arthur Langly, 75, of Harrington.

He was arrested in Columbia, Maine, on Tuesday and charged with arson and reckless conduct.

He was transported to the Washington County Jail.
