The Sanford Police Department executed a search warrant on Wednesday in connection with a shooting on Trafton Street.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the Sanford Police Department received reports that shots had been heard at 13 Trafton Street between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the previous day.

Police clarified that this shooting is unrelated to the incident still under investigation in which a suspect allegedly opened fire on a Sanford officer during a traffic stop.

The initial investigation into the Trafton Street shooting seemed to corroborate the reports, and officers developed sufficient evidence to apply for and receive a search warrant.

On Wednesday at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Maine State Police Special Response Team and Cumberland County Emergency Services Unit joined Sanford officers in executing a search warrant at the address.

During the warrant execution, law enforcement launched “distractionary devices” into the building.

Sanford detectives spent approximately four hours collecting evidence.

So far, no suspects have been arrested and no warrants have been issued.
