The Sanford Police Department has located the suspect’s vehicle after an officer came under fire early Tuesday morning, but the suspect remains at large.

“We also want to be clear about the nature of this incident: this was an act of violence directed at a police officer who was carrying out their duties and attempting to enforce the law,” said police.
Sanford Police launched a manhunt on Tuesday after an officer attempted a traffic stop near Shaw Street and Lebanon Street. The suspect allegedly refused to stop and opened fire on the officer.
The officer was not injured, but the suspect escaped.
After the initial search, including the Maine State Police Special Response Team, a Maine Forest Service helicopter, and multiple local departments, police issued an update.
The Sanford Police Department located and seized the suspect’s vehicle and is seeking a search warrant for it to find evidence related to the shooting.
Police did not specify where the vehicle was found.
The search for whoever was responsible remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
