Chinese state-controlled media revealed this week its plans to counteract U.S. nuclear deterrence in the Pacific, including suggestions that an attack on America would target Portland, the largest city in Maine.

According to multiple media reports, China’s state-run media outlets including China Central TV, the People’s Daily, the Global Times, the PLA Daily, the China Youth Daily and the Guangmin Daily ran identical stories touting the vast capabilities of the People’s Liberation Army navy’s submarine force.

According to a translation of the Global Times story published in the Washington Times, China’s strategic attack plans include targeteting Portland with advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

China’s media reports the following: “If we launch our DF 31A ICBMs over the North Pole, we can easily destroy a whole list of metropolises on the East Coast and the New England region of the U.S., including Annapolis, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Portland, Baltimore and Norfolk, whose population accounts for about one-eighth of America’s total residents.”

I’m really hoping this is a bad joke. Please. Say it is.

Perhaps they feel that the Chinese missiles are unreliable, and could in fact impact us if they overshot the intended target.

Don’t know why they would say that. They are Eliot Cutler’s pals, he spent years teaching them how to ‘buy’ Maine and America! Maybe he needs to talk to them, they are his buddies, they believe in the same thing!
