Former Republican President Donald Trump is preparing to launch his 2024 campaign for president after next week’s midterm elections, according to a report from the Associated Press.

“Aides to the former president are making quiet preparations for a 2024 presidential campaign that could be launched soon afterย next weekโ€™s midterm electionsย as Trump tries to capitalize on expected Republican wins to propel himself toward becoming the front-runner for his partyโ€™s nomination,” wrote AP.

Whether Trump will pull the trigger on another run for the White House has been the subject of intense speculation by Republican voters and conservative media.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has surged in popularity throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and many observers are expecting him to run for president. But Trump would still be the presumptive frontrunner in a Republican primary.

A recent Morning Consult poll from Politico showed Trump leading DeSantis in a hypothetical primary match up 49 percent to 24 percent.
