The Portland Police Department arrested a suspect on murder charges on Wednesday after a dying 21-year-old was found lying in the breakdown lane of I-295.

At approximately 9:47 p.m., Portland officers responded to the southbound side of I-295 near Exit 8 and the walking path adjacent to Tukey’s Bridge after receiving a report of an injured person.

Officers arrived to discover a 21-year-old, identified as Julian Nadeau, of Portland, lying in the breakdown lane near the walking path.

Responding officers began providing first aid before Nadeau was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center.

Nadeau later died at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation suggests that Nadeau was walking with friends along the walking path when a man on a bicycle, identified as Glen Rodney, 58, of Portland, approached them.

A physical altercation began in which Nadeau was mortally wounded. Rodney then allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle.

Witnesses were able to provide officers with a description of the suspect, and he was found minutes later fleeing on Presumpscot Street.

He was arrested without further incident.

Police did not reveal Nadeau’s exact cause of death.

Potential witnesses driving, walking, or biking in the area at the time of the incident are urged to come forward.
