A Portland homeless man is facing multiple charges for allegedly assaulting people with a machete, possessing scheduled drugs and trafficking in prison contraband, according to a Thursday press release from the Portland Police Department.
Portland Police say the were called to 211 Cumberland Ave. (Franklin Towers) on Wednesday, Jan. 31, shortly after 9 p.m. for a report of a fight.
The fight was reported to involve a man who was “moving around the building with a machete and assaulting people.”
Police located and arrested the suspect, 38-year-old Ahmed Hussein Ismail, on charges of Assault, Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon and Violating Conditions of Release.
In their Thursday press release, Portland Police indicated that Ismail is “unhoused.”
Ismail was booked at the Cumberland County Jail, where Portland Police say he was subsequently charged with the Unlawful Possession of Scheduled “W” Drugs and Trafficking in Prison Contraband.
Schedule W drugs, under Maine state statute, include methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine.
