Democratic Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) received donations to his 2024 campaign committee from several family members of billionaire left-wing megadonor George Soros, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) documents published Wednesday.

Rep. Golden’s “Committee to Elect Jared Golden” received a net total of more than $730,000 in contributions during the year-end quarter, and closed out 2023 with over $1.4 million on hand.
Among those who contributed to his campaign during the quarter were two sons of George Soros: Jonathan Soros, and Alexander Soros.
According to the FEC filing, Jonathan Soros and his wife, Jennifer Allan Soros, both made $3,300 contributions to Jared Golden on Oct. 10, 2023 — totaling $6,600.
Jonathan Soros and Jennifer Allan have a joint nonprofit entity called the “Jennifer And Jonathan Allan Soros Foundation,” which had $256 million in total assets in 2022.
Jonathan Soros donated $1 million to Planned Parenthood’s super PAC in 2016, which supported Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and is a prominent partner in the left-wing donor collective the Democracy Alliance.
Alexander Soros, who is heir apparent of the $25 billion Soros fortune and took over as chair of his father’s Open Society Foundations network in 2023, also made a $3,300 donation to Golden’s committee on Dec. 14, 2023.
Golden, a moderate “Blue Dog” Democrat, has received criticism from both the political left and right for his positions on certain issues during his time in office.

In August 2023, Golden was accosted by the left-wing dark money-funded blog the Maine Beacon for his opposition to President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.
More recently, Golden received backlash from conservatives for his support of a ban on assault weapons following the mass shooting in Lewiston — a move which resulted in election forecaster the Cook Political Report changing Maine’s 2024 2nd District race to a “Democrat Toss Up” designation.
Two Republican candidates are currently running to challenge Golden in Maine’s 2nd District this November: State Reps. Austin Theriault (R-Fort Kent) and Mike Soboleski (R-Phillips).
Theriault has received endorsements from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Chair of the House Republican Conference Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).
Campaign finance reports released Wednesday revealed that Theriault, whose campaign committee closed out 2023 with $337,905 on hand, is out-raising Soboleski by about a ten-to-one ratio.
Major Maine-based donors to Theriault’s campaign committee included Linda Bean, L.L. Bean heiress; Tim Dysart of Dysart’s truck stops; David Quirk of Quirk Auto Group; and former Maine GOP Chair Demi Kouzounas.

Rep. Soboleski’s year-end FEC filing revealed he collected $35,818 in total contributions during the quarter, and finished 2023 with $24,563 on hand.
The Maine Wire reached out to Rep. Soboleski following the release of the FEC filings to get his response to the apparent uphill fundraising battle he faces against Theriault.
“The more people learn about our campaign the more they want to get involved,” Soboleski told the Maine Wire Wednesday. “We are leading on the issues important to Mainers by attacking them with conservative solutions.”
“We’re proud to have recently won the Androscoggin GOP straw poll for CD2 by 11.5%, and we’ve spread our message on national TV and radio increasing fundraising greatly over the past few weeks,” Soboleski said.
“We are confident we will have the resources and conservative message needed to bring the fight to Jared Golden in November,” he added.
Soboleski and Theriault have agreed to participate in three debates in advance of the June primary election, one of which is slated for the Maine GOP State Convention in April.

Congressman Jared Golden you are taking money from Mr. Hate America.
I could never vote for someone who is taking money from George Soros.
What? No photo of Jared holding his beloved AR-15???
Ever listen to Jared off a teleprompter. He’s a f’n moron. He shows up every two years with pictures of his family and he in his uniform and the useful idiots in the 2nd district ooo and ah about what a patriot he is. He finds some socialist republican to put in commercials telling the world how wonderful he is. He’s beholden to the Soros family in every way. When he first arrived in Washington he was 100% in the arms of Nancy Pelosi. He’s now played to game long enough to know which votes he can get away with voting against. Take note, he only votes against the democrats on issues where he knows the democrats are going to win regardless of how the republicans vote. The second district couldn’t pick a worse candidate to represent them. Unfortunately unless they wake up we’re stuck with the guy with an IQ of about 60.
