Man Stabbed on Portland Street, Suspect Apprehended

A Portland man has been arrested in connection to a Monday stabbing on Portland Street.

Portland Police responded to 5 Portland St. on Monday, Feb. 19 at approximately 11:22 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, a 36-year-old man was found lying on the ground with an apparent stab wound, police said.

The man was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Just over an hour after launching their search for the assailant, Portland Police located the suspect at 1 City Center.

Eliot-James Nelson, 33, of Portland, was taken into custody after a brief struggle and charged with Aggravated Assault, Refusal to Submit to Arrest or Detention and two counts of Violating Conditions of Release.

Nelson was subsequently charged with Assault after kicking an officer at Maine Medical Center, where he was taken for precautionary reasons before being transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

As with most Democrat run cities, Nelson will quickly be back on the streets to commit more crimes.
