A man who has talked about living on the streets of Portland has been formally charged with actor Rob Reiner’s brutal murder.
Nick Reiner, the actor’s son, pleaded not guilty Wednesday after the indictment was handed down.
The indictment effectively bypasses the need for a preliminary hearing to determine whether police had enough evidence to bring murder charges.
Reiner allegedly stabbed to death both his father and his mother, Michele, just over six months ago.
Rob Reiner, 78, who made his name playing Meathead in the popular TV sitcom, and his longtime photographer wife, 70, were found stabbed to death in mid-December inside their Brentwood, California home.
The couple was discovered dead by their daughter, Romy Reiner. The LA County Medical Examiner’s Office said they died of “multiple sharp force injuries.”
Their 32-year-old son talked to People magazine a decade ago about once living without a roof over his head in Maine’s largest city.
“I was homeless in Maine,” he told People in 2016. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun.”
Reiner spoke in the interview about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets of Portland.
“He said he cycled in and out of rehab beginning around age 15, but as his addiction escalated, he drifted farther from home and spent significant stretches homeless,” People reported.
Rob Reiner was best known for directing a slew of classic ’80s and ’90s hit films, including “When Harry Met Sally,” “The Princess Bride,” “This is Spinal Tap” and “A Few Good Men.”
He first rose to fame for his role as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the CBS sitcom “All in the Family,” which landed him two Emmy Awards.
Sally Struthers, who played the role of Gloria alongside Reiner in “All in the Family,” was arrested in Ogunquit in 2012 for drunk driving while performing in “9 To 5” at the Ogunquit Playhouse.
The charge was dropped after Struthers pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of driving to endanger, resulting in a one-month license suspension, a fine, and no jail time.

Oh shoot one less vote for Troy boy.
Except he wasent a Mainer. He went to school for a short time here, was from out of state and ended up on the street due to his drug addictions. To be a real Mainer, you have to be born here in this state. Thank God he didnt murder anyone here like he did his parents in California, we already have an overload of dangerous outta staters and foreigners labeled “Mainers” killing US REAL MAINERS.
Nick Reiner was homeless for some time, rob reiner was brainless his entire life.
“Reiner spoke in the interview about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets of Portland.” So this convicted double murderer of this parents is life long druggie. Why does the Politically Correct MT call him “homeless.?
No, to be a real Mainer, you have to have a great, great, great grandfather who fought for Maine in the Civil War. I have two….
MAKE ASYLUMS GREAT AGAIN !
All junkies and the mentally ill must be institutionalized !
This is disingenuous to say Nick Reiner was a former “Mainer” – he was passing through, either as a student or just the homeless place. You have to be born in Maine and grow up in the state to be a “Mainer”.
What the hell kind of title is that?
