Three Mainers are facing drug trafficking charges after leading police on a chase down Interstate 95 Wednesday morning, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say Penobscot Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Littlefield Avenue in Hermon at about 10:42 a.m. Wednesday for a traffic violation.
The vehicle failed to stop for the deputies, and led police on a pursuit northbound on I-95 before eventually pulling over near the area of the Broadway Exit in Bangor, police said.
Police seized 142 grams of crack cocaine and 11 grams of fentanyl during the incident.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old-Jacob Hawkes, of Bangor, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs, Violation of Conditional Release, Operating After Revocation, Eluding an Officer, and Driving to Endanger.
Clinton Taylor, 58, also of Bangor, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs.
Another passenger, 26-year-old Kayla McCarthy of Lee was transported to Northern Light Easter Maine Medical Center as a precaution due to having drugs inside her body, the Penobscot Sheriff’s Office said.
After being medically cleared, McCarthy was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where she was charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs, and Violation of Conditional Release.

Police say McCarthy also had a warrant for Failure to Appear on a charge of Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said they received assistance in this incident from Maine State Police, the Bangor Fire Department, and the Old Town Police Department.
