Biden Admin Seeks to Crack Down on Chinese Cars in the U.S. Citing National Security Concerns

The Biden Administration unveiled a new plan intended to oppose national security risks presented by Chinese made vehicles being imported to the U.S.

President Joe Biden’s announcement on Thursday comes as his administration facilitates an unprecedented number of illegal border crossings by Chinese nationals.

“New vulnerabilities and threats could arise with connected autos if a foreign government gained access to these vehicles’ systems or data. Connected vehicles collect large amounts of sensitive data on their drivers and passengers; regularly use their cameras and sensors to record detailed information on U.S. infrastructure; interact directly with critical infrastructure; and can be piloted or disabled remotely,” said the White House in a press release.

President Biden highlighted the dangers posed by the use of modern cars manufactured in China or other hostile nations.

Many modern cars, “connected autos,” have numerous features that collect personal information from drivers, record roadways and surroundings, and are capable of being started and stopped remotely.

Connected autos manufactured in China, or using advanced components manufactured in China, could easily become compromised by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The CCP could potentially collect the personal information of car owners, collect data from any vital U.S. infrastructure with which the cars communicated, and remotely shut down the compromised vehicles.

Biden pointed to restrictions in China on U.S. made vehicles, suggesting that the U.S. should implement similar regulations.

The White House is framing Biden’s plan as “unprecedented action” intended to address the national security risks posed by China.

The plan, however, does not actually impose any regulations or measures to prevent an influx of Chinese-made vehicles.

Instead, Biden’s “unprecedented action” merely directs the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC) to begin an investigation into the risks posed by cars made by China and other hostile nations.

The DoC will then consider possible regulations to mitigate the threats, and will be required to submit its findings after 60 days.

As Biden touts his study as a hard-line action against the CCP, he maintains his refusal to close the border, which he is legally empowered to do, as military-aged Chinese citizens flow unimpeded into the country.

In the last three months of 2023, over 23,000 Chinese nationals were encountered crossing the border illegally.

Many of those Chinese foreign nationals ended up in Maine, and have been fueling the state’s crisis of illegal CCP-backed marijuana grow facilities.

Although Biden has proposed multiple measures to crack down on dangers posed by Chinese technology in recent months, he has continued to ignore the thousands of Chinese criminals flooding into the country.

I am much more concerned about the Biden administration spying on us than the Chinese car makers.
