On Friday, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Brewer man who was a 10-year sex offender registrant on several child pornography charges.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest followed a long investigation conducted with the assistance of the Brewer Police Department and U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations.

Aaron Astran, 31, of Brewer, was arrested on Thursday, March 7, and charged with three counts of possession of sexually explicit material with a minor under 12 years old and 1 count of criminal attempt.

Astran was on the Maine Sex Offender Registry as a 10-year registrant for a 2013 conviction on charges of visual sexual aggression against a child and possession of sexually explicit material, according to the Penobscot Sheriff’s Office.

“The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind parents to talk with their children and educate them about the dangers of the internet and social media. Please stay involved and monitor,” the sheriff’s office stated Friday.
