Chellie Pingree Removes the Ukrainian Flag From Her X Profile, Quickly Puts it Back After Being Questioned

Democratic Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (ME-01) has been a staunch supporter of sending U.S. aid to Ukraine aid in their effort to repel the Russian invasion that began in February 2022 — so why did she remove the Ukrainian flag from her X profile?

[RELATED: Chellie Pingree’s Wealth Has Surged as Member of Congress…]

In March 2022, just a month after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his “special military operation” into Ukraine, Rep. Pingree joined a bipartisan congressional delegation on a trip to Eastern European countries in a gesture of support to Ukraine “in their fight against autocracy.”

As early as March 19, 2022, Pingree had added a Ukrainian flag to her then-Twitter profile — appended just to the right of Old Glory — as a symbolic demonstration of solidarity with the war-torn nation.

However, if one were to have visited Pingree’s X profile this week before Friday, just over two years since Putin’s invasion, the conspicuous absence of the Ukrainian flag would be observed.

A snapshot of Pingree’s X profile from August 19, 2023, is the last archived version of her profile that shows the inclusion of the Ukrainian flag in her handle.

At some point between August 2023 and March 2024, Pingree removed both the Ukrainian flag and the American flag from her profile.

A spokesperson for Congresswoman Pingree did not respond to a request from the Maine Wire on Thursday asking whether the removal of the Ukrainian flag from her profile indicates a change in her support for continued U.S. aid to the country.

However, on Friday, following the emails from the Maine Wire to her staff, the Ukrainian flag (the American flag was not readded) miraculously reappeared on Pingree’s profile — though her staff still did not respond to the emails.

The removal of the Ukrainian flag does not appear to indicate any waning of her support for the country on the part of the Maine Democrat — earlier this week Pingree led a group of her colleagues in applauding the accession of Sweden into NATO, mentioning the country will now be among the alliance “defending democracy” against the feared westward expansion of Vladimir Putin.

Rep. Chellie Pingree’s X profile as seen on March 14, 2023.

“We do not take lightly your decision to end your centuries-long neutrality position in the face of Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine,” Pingree wrote in a Tuesday letter joined by U.S. Senators from Maine Susan Collins (R) and Angus King (I).

“The sovereign decision to ally with NATO’s mission to ensure the collective defense of all its members is a deterrent unmatched by any alliance around the world,” they wrote. “Putin’s blatant provocation of invading Ukraine has now created a stronger Alliance than ever before, and we are proud for Sweden to become a part.”

There appears to be a growing reluctance on the part of Capitol Hill lawmakers, largely among House Republicans, to continue sending taxpayer dollars Ukraine, with U.S. aid to the country to date totaling well over $100 billion.

A Senate-approved $95 billion package, which includes aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, has faced strong opposition from more conservative House Republicans, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has so far refused to bring the legislation to the floor for a vote.

The Pentagon announced Tuesday that as a result of finding some cost savings in its contracts, it will rush about $300 million in weapons to Ukraine — the Defense Department’s first security package for Ukraine since December, when they acknowledged that they would run out of replenishment funds by the end of the year.

“When Russian troops advance and its guns fire, Ukraine does not have enough ammunition to fire back,” Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in announcing the $300 million aid package.

Sadly all Senators and representatives from Maine do nothing for the people of the United States. They would rather support the Ukrainian borders than protect our border.

Isn’t it amazing that a politician does such an outstanding job that she is awarded a lifetime free pass into office for …for…for..as Jack Benny used to say..” I’m thinking…I’m thinking….

She’s oh so worried about Russias expanding to the west when the reality is it’s the US/NATO that is expanding to the East right up to the Russian border. Of course she conveniently never mentions why there is a war in Ukraine. Such as the US reneging on its promise to not solicit Ukrainian membership into NATO. The US financing of bioweapons labs in Ukraine. The US involvement in the overthrow of the democratically elected gov’t of Victor Yanukovich who wanted closer ties to Russia instead of the EU. The Ukrainian artillery shelling of primarily Russian populations in Eastern Ukraine. Violation of the Minsk11 accord and so on. There is a war in Ukraine because the US/NATO wants war there and they got it. So the warmonger now wants to send billions more of printed funny money to keep the killing machine going. This of course is very good for campaign contributions from the MIC.

This shows the multiple times the US/NATO squashed agreements between Russia/Ukraine to come to terms early in the conflict. Very concise synopsis of the conflict and the US desire to make sure that didn’t happen.

She’s also pro open border. When I contacted her office telling her open borders would be the biggest issue in this upcoming election, and said to close the borders, her reply was because Maine has an aging population, we need younger people to live here and openly welcomes the criminal invaders.

It takes quite a high degree of incompetency to want to fund and secure your neighbors house in lieu of your own. A Democrat and Rhinos would disagree, naturally, with that statement.
