ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston agents deported 31-year-old Raul Thalison De Oliveira-Silva from the U.S. to Brazil on Feb. 23.
Local authorities had previously arrested De Oliveira-Silva in Brockton, Mass. on Nov. 21, 2023, on charged of strangulation and assault and battery.
According to ICE, the 31-year-old Brazilian fugitive unlawfully entered the U.S. in November 21, and was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol and removed to Mexico.
He then unlawfully reentered the U.S. at an unknown date and location, without being admitted or inspected by an immigration official, ICE said.
De Oliveira-Silva was convicted of extortion and sentenced to five years in prison by a criminal court in Brazil in September 2019, and Brazilian authorities are currently seeking his custody for that conviction, according to ICE.
In fiscal year 2023, ERO agents nationwide made a total of 170,590 arrests, a 19.5 percent increase from 2022 — including 73,822 unlawfully present noncitizens with a criminal history.
