Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey says he is “dismayed” at the condemnation of a proposed bill that would expand legal protections for sex-change procedures and late-term abortions by a group of 16 other state attorneys general.

In response to a letter sent Monday by the GOP attorneys general that condemned the bill, LD 227, as “constitutionally defective” and “unprecedented,” Attorney General Frey hit back with his own letter Tuesday, saying the “legal concerns raised by the letter are meritless.”
Frey accused Tennessee Attorney General Skrmetti, who spearheaded the Monday letter, of an “attempt to intimidate proponents” of LD 227 and to “influence legislative consideration of another state.”
Maine’s Attorney General defended LD 227 as a bill that would would “protect providers of legally protected reproductive and gender-affirming health care provided in Maine from interference or retaliation from states with different policies.”
“This is not unprecedented, as at least 17 other states and the District of Columbia have already enacted similar ‘shield laws’ to protect their health care providers from aggressive actions by objecting states,” Frey wrote. “Our Republic endures.”
Frey wrote that LD 227 — which would create protections for adults who traffic children across state lines into Maine in order to receive so-called “gender-affirming” treatments — have “become necessary” due to legislation in other states that “punish beyond their borders lawful behavior that occurs in Maine and other states.”
Frey cited a recent case in which Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sought medical records from a hospital in Washington state as part of investigation into whether the hospital provided Texan children with “gender-affirming” treatment in violation of Texas state law.
“The proponents of L.D. 227 do not wish to leave Maine’s health care providers open to such overreach when they professionally deliver essential medical care, consistent with standard of care, in Maine [emphasis original],” Frey wrote.
Maine’s Attorney General also said his office has reviewed LD 227 and is “confident it will withstand legal challenge,” arguing that the bill would allow Maine to “honor out-of-state judgments as long as they were issued in accord with basic requirements for due process and the court had sufficient jurisdiction.”
“Harmony between our states would be best preserved and promoted by the exercise of restraint by all parties seeking to control health care related policy choices in other states,” Frey wrote. “We do have a right to disagree and I fully concur that one state cannot control another.”
“Recognizing these shared values, I welcome your respect for Maine’s ability to decide what access to health care people in Maine receive, free from interference by out-of-state actors,” he wrote.

Absolute putz! Now that the UK has banned puberty blockers for children, our legislators should wake up that sexual mutilation is a bad thing. But, I doubt it. Anyone who supports sex change operations for minors should be forced to undergo the same procedure. I’m officially volunteering to do the surgery. No need to pay me as these freak “doctors” become wealthy for committing this heinous crime.
Folk’s this is what happens when you let liberals mate with ground hogs. Please stop the madness.
Bill to protect those who engage in child trafficking, and sexual mutilation
And yet, most leftists deny evil exists. These surgeries make lobotomies seem tame by comparison. I wish every child who commits suicide as a result of these gender destroying surgeries (50%) could at least take the adult who perpetrated the atrocity with them
I bet I could “dismay” him way better than that bill ever could. 🙂
Frey has also filed an amicus in support of govt censorship in the MO vs Biden case involving those who spoke out against covid lockdowns and masks.
He’s a commie
Putz is not the word I was thinking ! But to be nice , wasn’t he having an affair and lied about his legal residence …🤔
a person that takes a child across state lines without permission of the parents is kidnapping. A federal offence. State law would mean nothing.
