A former New Hampshire man has been arrested in relation to a series of robberies at southern Maine churches, authorities announced Sunday.
According to the Maine State Police, shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 21, a woman called 911 from the parking lot of a church located at 213 Federal Road in Parsonsfield, reporting that a male subject threatened to kill her and referenced a firearm, but did not display the firearm.
Units from the Maine State Police and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, along with with other area agencies, began a search for the suspect as he left the Parsonsfield church in a 2011 Silver Subaru, almost striking a pedestrian as he headed east toward Cornish, according to police.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., another robbery was reported in the parking lot of a church at 37 Main St. in Cornish by a man who told police that the suspect pulled a gun on him and demanded his wallet.
Police received a report of a third robbery at a church located at 1006 Pequawket Trail in Baldwin at about 11:19 a.m., where the suspect reportedly entered the church, took money from the offering plate, and grabbed a woman’s purse before fleeing the church.
A pursuit of the suspect began at approximately 11:45 a.m., when police say deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect’s vehicle near Bliss Road in Baldwin heading south on Route 107.
Maine State Police say they took over the pursuit when the suspect turned around and began heading north on Route 107 in Baldwin.
According to Maine State Police, during the chase the male suspect could be seen waving a firearm inside his vehicle and intentionally swerved his vehicle at other vehicles on Route 107, but no other vehicles were hit and no one was injured.
Sgt. Daniel Hanson of the Maine State Police was able to use a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the suspect’s vehicle when entering Bridgton near the Bridgton Hospital.
Police say the suspect then fled on foot, but was quickly located and taken to the Bridgton Hospital for evaluation.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Connor McGlone of Auburn, Maine, previously of New Hampshire.
McGlone was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery.
Upon his release from Bridgton Hospital, McGlone will be transported to the York County Jail.
Maine State Police say McGlone had three active warrants out for his arrest in Maine at the time of the Sunday robberies: a warrant out of York County for robbery dated Feb. 15; a warrant out of Oxford County for probation revocation from a prior robbery dated Feb. 22; and a warrant out of York County for felony theft dated March 27.
Police say additional charges are expected as the investigation into the incidents continues.
Could have sworn I commented about this story and my comment would up sounding very non-sequitur in another story…
“As the Nation goes, so goes Maine”
With a record like that shouldn’t he already been locked up? Shouldn’t have also been charged with evading the police?
