U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Monday announced the seizure of more than $750,000 worth of cocaine hidden within a vehicle being driven across the U.S.-Mexico border by a Mexican citizen.

The seizure occurred on Thursday, April 25, at the Pharr International Bridge, which connects the city of Pharr, Texas, with Reynosa, Mexico.
According to CBP, officers on the bridge stopped a 2008 Dodge driven by a 58-year-old Mexican citizen and referred the vehicle for a secondary inspection.
Upon a secondary examination of the vehicle, CBP officers discovered 24 packages containing a total of 47 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle.
CBP estimated the total street value of the seized drugs at $761,803.

The narcotics and vehicle were seized by CBP, and U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and opened a criminal investigation.
“This significant cocaine seizure is reflective of the strong enforcement posture of our frontline CBP officers and their effectiveness in applying inspections experience and technology,” said Pharr Port of Entry Director Carlos Rodriguez. “Seizures like these exemplify CBP’s commitment to advancing our border security mission while facilitating lawful trade and travel.”
