Homeland Secretary: Illegal Aliens Trying to “game” Asylum Rules

Some of the migrants illegally entering the U.S. over the unsecured southern border are trying to “game” the American asylum system, according to comments from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“The reality is that some people do indeed try to game the system,” Mayorkas told CBS in an interview.

“That does not speak to everyone whom we encounter, but there is an element of it, and we deal with it accordingly,” he said, without elaborating on how DHS deals with bogus asylum claims.

Asylum seekers must apply for asylum status within one year of arriving in the U.S. The application must include a detailed explanation of their reasons for seeking asylum, supported by documentation and evidence. Following this, applicants undergo a background check and an interview process.

Due to the record levels of asylum claims filed in recent years, immigration courts are extremely backlogged, meaning it can take up to five years or longer for asylum claims to have hearings.

Federal law prohibits asylum seekers from working until 180 days after filing their application. After this period, they can apply for a work authorization, which often takes additional time to be approved due to bureaucratic delays.

If, after living and working in the U.S. for several years, an asylum applicant’s petition is rejected by an immigration court, the applicant is expected to “self-deport.”

In 2019, the almost 90 percent of all asylum claims were rejected — often because the applicant was found to be an economic migrant, which is not a legitimate reason to seek asylum.

However, under the Biden Administration, the number of denied asylum claims has fallen to less than 65 percent, according to information tracked by researchers at Syracuse University.

That’s ok, no problem. Hope it was worth it after the next election cycle, indictments and convictions put your ass in prison for the rest of your life. Wasn’t the penalty for treason execution?

They’re not “Trying to game asylum rules”. They have gamed them. They are being handed everything by the corrupt democrats. Look at the article above about Sanford hiring illegals to work in the prison. Go to any other country as an illegal and see what is handed to you.

This is almost laughable if it wasn’t so serious. This is what Majorkas and the dems want to happen. They are letting it happen on purpose. Turn the US into their idea of utopia. What the rest of us would call a third world shit hole.

We need to make the penalty for falsifying one’s status much more serious. How about we force illegals into military training and then send them back to their country of origin to fight for their own rights. The USA has worked too hard to just give our rights and freedoms away for free.
