New Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) data, acquired by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, reveals the number of illegal immigrant “gotaways” who were not encountered by CBP, adding to the already astronomical numbers of illegal immigrants encountered at the border under the Biden Administration.
“Internal CBP data I obtained via FOIA request reveals 13 years of known gotaways data at the border, showing gotaways have *exploded* under the Biden admin compared to the Trump & Obama years. This is the first time these numbers have ever been revealed,” said Melugin on X.
The CBP “gotaways” count measures the number of illegal immigrants detected entering the country via cameras or other means of surveillance, but who evaded CBP border agents, and were not officially “encountered”.
According to the newly released data, the number of gotaways skyrocketed under President Joe Biden, increasing alongside the number of illegal aliens actually encountered by border officials.
In 2023, CBP reported 670,674 gotaway’s, which is more than 500,000 over 2019’s 151,466, the highest number recorded in a single year under the Trump Administration.
During President Biden’s first three years in office, CBP reported over 1.6 million gotaways, significantly more than the 1.4 million reported from 2010 through 2020.
The true gotaways numbers are probably significantly higher, because not all illegals aliens sneaking past CBP agents would be detected by surveillance equipment.
CBP is particularly concerned with the gotaways, because they largely represent people who were willing to cross at more dangerous locations in order to avoid being apprehended.
“If a person is willing to put themselves into harm’s way crossing through very remote, very dangerous conditions to evade capture, you have to ask yourself why. What makes them willing to take that risk? That’s of concern to me,” said Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens, speaking to a U.S. house committee last year.

The newly released numbers add to the 9.9 million encounters reported by the CBP during Biden’s presidency, bringing the total number of recorded crossings under Biden to 11.5 million — almost nine times the population of Maine.
That number is likely to grow significantly by the end of the year, with 2024 on track to exceed the 2023 numbers, as by the same time in 2023, CBP had reported over 100,000 fewer encounters than 2024’s current total.
Currently, the number of illegal aliens known by CBP to have entered the country under Biden exceeds the total population of all but seven states.
In recent years, a significant number of those aliens have been Chinese foreign nationals, primarily young single males.

Biden, along with Democrats at every level of government, have failed to stop the invasion of illegal alien criminals, and, in many cases, have intentionally frustrated any efforts by Republicans to take action to stop the crisis.
