One of the three Democrats running for the Maine House of Representatives seat left vacant by House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross has withdrawn, just a day before the Tuesday primary.
Maine State Sen. Ben Chipman submitted a withdrawal notice to Secretary of State Shenna Bellows on Monday, according to a press release from the Secretary of State’s Office.
The announcement does not include a reason for Sen. Chipman’s withdrawal from the ballot.
Sen. Chipman was running for House District 118, a seat that until the close of the 131st Legislature was held by House Speaker Talbot Ross.
Talbot Ross, now termed-out of the House, is running for the Senate seat that was previously held by Chipman, District 28, part of Portland and Long Island.
Because Chipman withdrew as a candidate from the primary less than 70 days before the election, his name will still appear on the ballot on Tuesday.
However, any votes cast for Chipman will be treated and reported as blanks.
A notice of Chipman’s withdrawal will be posted at polling locations in House District 118 on election day for voters.
Still in the race for the District 118 Democratic primary are former House Rep. Herbert Adams, and Somali-born former member of the Portland School Board Yusuf Yusuf.
Good news – if only that ferret-faced weasel would similarly WITHDRAW from Maine. We should get so lucky.
The headline is wrong – Chipman was running for the House, not the Senate.
He was always a filthy corrupt degenerate.
