The Bangor Daily News, a once-vital news source for northern Maine that has transmogrified into a left-wing taxpayer-subsidized propaganda rag, has outdone themselves with their latest bizarre editorial on the GOP primary for the Second Congressional District.
Beginning with the obviously deceitful premise that the editorial board wanted to interview candidates Mike Soboleski and Austin Theriault with open minds and decide whom to endorse, the writers of the editorial proceed to insult the Republican candidates — and conservatives generally — for several paragraphs.
The BDN concludes with an endorsement of Soboleski, but only because he gave them the proper respect by actually caring what they think. The editorial, as with most opinion blogs from the board, carries no weight and will have no impact whatsoever on CD2 voters. The only value of the editorial is providing a window into how the people at Maine’s supposedly independent newspaper think.
For the esteemed BDN editorial writers, supporting former Republican President Donald Trump is an “unfortunate prerequisite” for down ballot candidates. Keep in mind: Trump won Maine’s CD2 with 52.3 percent of the vote in 2020, and half of the counties in Maine voted more for Trump than for Biden.
The BDN writers are still white-knuckling their pearls over Jan. 6, but they’ve not bothered analyzing the crimes and lies associated with Hunter Biden’s laptop and the interference in the 2020 election. Nor have they opined on Sen. Angus King conspiring with Twitter and Facebook to rig his 2018 election by getting critics banished from the popular social media platforms.
The BDN wants you to believe that they’re honestly evaluating Republican candidates even as they sneer at hundreds of thousands of Mainers who voted for Trump. At the same time, they ignore — or perhaps are ignorant of — legitimate news stories and scandals that might reflect poorly on their beloved far left politicians.
These geniuses proceed to rip on Soboleski because he wants to drill for more hydrocarbon-based fuel. Pray tell: Do the printers that create the BDN’s dead-tree edition run on sunshine, breezes, and unicorn farts? What mode of transportation does the BDN use to deliver their papers? Did the writers of this woefully unaware editorial arrive at work on bikes? How do they heat their news room? Just guessing here, but I think it’s safe to say these hypocrites are benefitting from the very energy practices they condemn.
Most absurdly, the BDN declares that it has reconsidered the issue of allowing hard drug use in certain areas and now supports bringing the failed practice to Maine. Perhaps they should pay a visit to one of the many homeless camps in Bangor that are de facto legalized drug use areas. If they had actually studied the issue, or witnessed the human suffering at the decriminalized sites in their own city, they would have understood that so-called “safe injection” sites would be disastrous and dangerous. In fact, the idea has failed everywhere it’s been tried. Even in left-wing Oregon politicians have moved to reverse their insane experiment with decriminalizing hard drugs.
The BDN concludes their vacuous screed by saying that Soboleski has earned their “respect” because he would actually talk to them.
On the contrary, Theriault has earned respect by regarding the BDN editorial board exactly the way most Mainers do — and all Mainers should: as an organ of the lunatic left.
Whatever happened to hydro and nuclear power ?
Thank you for clearly pointing out the BDN for what it truly is, I used to buy the paper over the PPH thinking there must be more reality in their pages but long ago found out that I was wrong. It perplexes me how so many publishers don’t take the time to understand their customers. The last thing anyone in marketing with any degree of brainpower would do is irritate their customers, the BDN is astoundingly adept at it!
