In addition to lying on the presidential debate stage last week that no American troops had died under his watch (18 have died in combat so far), President Joe Biden and his administration have been trying to gaslight the American public into believing crime is down across America. The truth is Biden’s open border combined with the Democrats’ defund the police movement has fueled a surge in crime over the last four years from Maine to California.
The source the Biden Administration cites as proof there is a “historic decline in violent crime” is the FBI’s preliminary Uniform Crime Reporting Program report for the first quarter of 2024. The problem with this data source is that it’s preliminary and as much as 20 percent or more of all law enforcement agencies have not been reporting to the FBI since the bureau switched its reporting system three years ago. Nor can one quarter’s data undo the carnage of four years.
As criminologists have pointed out, crime victims are underreporting crimes at an increasing rate, especially in large Democrat runs cities where the local prosecutors, like Alvin Bragg of New York, have essentially abandoned them in the name of social justice and “equity.” In places like California, property theft under $950 is treated like a parking violation, so why bother reporting. Local police have also gotten the message from Left-wing district attorneys, too, and have stopped making certain arrests or even responding to 911 calls when they know the cases will be dismissed.
Bottom line, the FBI data is incomplete.
However, the FBI is not the only game in town when it comes to crime statistics. The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) has its own data which shows there was a 42 percent increase in violent crime victims in 2022 compared to 2021 and a 15 percent increase in property crime victims during that same time frame. This data is only from the victims who report, meaning the numbers are worse in reality.
While most crime data is imperfect under the best of circumstances, due to the highly fragmented nature of the criminal justice system, the murder/homicide rate is the most credible data set and best indicator of violent crime trends, since it’s difficult to misreport or underreport dead bodies. In Maine, under Janet Mills, for example, according to the state police, the number of murders jumped 40 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, and negligent manslaughter more than doubled over the same period. By comparison, in deep red Texas, the number of murders dropped 2 percent over the same time frame.
Nationally, Biden and the Democrats have overseen three of the four most murderous years since the revolution in policing and criminal justice spawned by Rudy Giuliani in New York took hold nationwide over 25 years ago. This includes 22,536 murders in 2021, 21,156 in 2022, and an estimated 18,400 in 2023, as the final numbers are still being compiled. The only year under Trump that compares was 2020, with 22,414 murders, which of course included the rise of the Black Lives Matter and defund the police movements across Democrat-run cities and states.
Meanwhile, at the border, the rate of criminal aliens encountered by the Border Patrol has reached record setting levels under Biden, with a 133 percent increase in the number of such encounters compared to the Trump presidency, for a total of 51,188 criminal alien encounters under Biden and still counting. This includes 174 murderers, compared to 11 under Trump. Untold numbers of these and other illegal aliens have either slipped past the Border Patrol or been released by the Biden Department of Homeland Security into America’s communities with horrific consequences. This includes murders, rapes, and assaults.
Behind the numbers are real people whose lives have been lost and whose families have been destroyed. These include university student Laken Riley in Georgia whose alleged killer was paroled into the U.S. by the Biden Administration in 2022, mother of five Rachel Morin of Maryland whose accused murderer entered the U.S. illegally in 2023, and twelve year old Jocelyn Nungaray of Texas who was raped and murdered allegedly by two illegal aliens that were released into the country this year by the Biden Administration.
In Maine, Gloria Cascio was killed this April on the Maine Turnpike after her car was presumably struck by another vehicle operated erratically by an illegal alien, Oguzhan Cildir. Cildir has not been charged to date, as police await a toxicology report.
The full extent of illegal alien crime is virtually impossible to know, as many Democrat run “sanctuary” cities and states and their media allies actively prevent knowing the immigration status of the offenders or reporting it.
Getting crime under control will require a back-to-basics approach under which quality-of-life crimes are again enforced, cash bail is reintroduced, violent felonies are fully prosecuted, law enforcement agencies are adequately funded and supported, and an end to prosecuting victims of crime who defend themselves. In other words, state and local Democrats will have to abandon their current policies.
As for the border, if Donald Trump wins the presidency again his administration will have to lead a whole-of-nation enforcement operation to address the 10 million plus illegal aliens Biden has allowed into the U.S. Every level of government and the private sector will have a role to play in cleaning up this catastrophic mess, including an end to Democrat-run cities, counties, and states giving sanctuary to criminal illegal aliens and thwarting the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
The primary focus should be on the record number of criminals and terrorists Biden has allowed into our country. This includes the eight ISIS-linked operatives arrested in June across New York, Pennsylvania, and California, or the more than 400 aliens released into the country by the Biden Administration that reportedly were part of an ISIS-affiliated smuggling network, most of which remain at large.
If Biden and his Democrat cohorts are re-elected come November, the devastation will continue and there will be no end in sight.
Shut it down. We have such a bright President. As a laywer he did not correctly read the high court desicition fully he lied to us.
The Epoch Times did a great analysis; behind a paywall but perhaps the Maine Wire will check it out.
