A juvenile male was injured in a drive-by shooting that occurred early Monday morning near the intersection of Pine and Jefferson Street in Lewiston, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

Monday’s shooting comes just weeks after a 17-year-old male was found dead at the scene of a shooting at a public housing complex of Lewiston — one of a series of shots fired incidents police have responded to in the city this summer.

According to Lewiston Police, at about 1 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to the area of Pine and Jefferson for a report of multiple gunshots fired.

Upon arrival, officers were told by witnesses that they heard gunfire and observed a vehicle speeding away from the scene.

Police canvassing the area also located several shell casings in the roadway.

Shortly after the shots fired report, police responded to the 7-Eleven convenience store at 345 Main St. for a report of a juvenile male with a possible gunshot wound to the leg.

Police say that officers and paramedics located the juvenile male in a vehicle that had numerous bullet holes and matched the description of the vehicle that witnesses said sped away from the shooting.

The juvenile male was transported to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

“It appears ‘victim’s’ [scare quotes original] injuries were sustained by glass/shrapnel and not by a direct bullet,” Lewiston Police said in a Monday post to social media.

“The victim and all other passengers in the vehicle are not cooperating with the investigation,” police said.

But, but they tell us that public housing projects are no more dangerous than private housing projects; this report must be misinformation.

Maine now can claim its own “mini-Chicago”. Thanks to the Catholic Charities’ import program.
