Brunswick Police on Thursday announced the arrest of three individuals accused of operating an organized retail theft scheme targeting stores and companies across Maine and in other states.

Police say they were notified on Wednesday by a member of Hannaford’s loss prevention team of three individuals stealing a large amount of over the counter medications and beauty products at the Elm Street Hannaford location in Brunswick.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, officers were able to locate and arrest three suspects a short distance from the store: Angie Cubillos, 24; Alan Rodriguez, 38; and Marlene Santaelle, 29.

According to Brunswick Police, all three suspects are from New York.

Upon further investigation alongside Hannaford’s loss prevention team, police determined that the three suspects were allegedly “involved in organized retail thefts” that had targeted other retail companies and locations throughout Maine.

A search of the suspects’ vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately $32,000 worth of over the counter medications and merchandise, police said.

All three suspects were taken to Cumberland County Jail and charged with theft by receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

Police say that both Rodriguez and Cubillos were held without bail and face an additional charge of being a fugitive from justice as they were found to have extradition warrants for similar charges in both California and New Jersey.

Santaelle’s bail was set at $1,500 cash.

Brunswick Police say their investigation remains active.

Walk in to any Walmart, CVS, or Home Depot and you will see everything from OTC medications, underwear (seriously!?), and small hand tools locked up. Where else have we heard this story? Oh yes, California. Who the hell wants to live like this? When you don’t prosecute crimes like this, chaos becomes the norm. Justice is supposed to be blind, but the Democratic Party is making a mockery of that. I have lost all respect for Mills and the Democratic Party in Maine, they aren’t for the people anymore, this is strictly about being in power, being in control.

Is this a “file image,” or directly related to the incident described here? We frequent that store, and would not appreciate seeing these “shoppers.”
