At around 9:00 p.m., deputies received a call warning that Edward Goodwin, 30, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, had taken his friend’s car and was driving drunk.
Deputy Michael Pina spotted the vehicle in question driving on Route 15 in Abbot toward Monson. He turned on his lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, but Goodwin allegedly refused to comply.
Instead of pulling over, Goodwin allegedly sped up, began driving erratically, and continued heading north through Monson and Shirley towards Greenville.
The Greenville Police Department set up road spikes to stop Goodwin. He allegedly drove over the spikes, damaging some of his tires but nonetheless persisted in driving.
Other officers set up more spikes in Greenville, which Goodwin also allegedly hit. The spikes punctured his remaining tires, but he still allegedly refused to stop.
The Massachusetts man continued onto Lily Bay Road into Beaver Cove until the damage to the vehicle made it impossible for him to continue.
Goodwin was then taken into custody and transported to the Piscataquis County Jail. He faces charges for eluding a police officer, operating under the influence, driving to endanger, criminal speeding, and driving without a license.
This is not Goodwin’s first run-in with the law.
In September 2020, he was arrested for unarmed burglary in his hometown.
