Westbrook Police on Monday announced the arrest of a local man, previously charged with stealing from a vehicle and possessing a stolen firearm from Portland, in connection to their investigation into a bicycle theft on East Bridge Street.
According to police, on June 16, a resident reported that a bicycle was stolen from their residence and that their vehicle was burglarized.
Later that morning, a Westbrook Police officer spotted a male riding the stolen bicycle on Main Street near City Hall.
The officer stopped the individual and confirmed the bicycle was stolen.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jay Warren, was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property and violation of conditions of release.
Police noted that Warren had been arrested just six days earlier for burglarizing a vehicle on Brook Street, where he was found with stolen items and a stolen firearm from Portland.
The stolen bicycle was returned to the owner, police said.
Warren is still in custody at the Cumberland County Jail, being held without bail due to violating a condition of his release.
