An alleged drunk driver from Gorham reportedly attempted to flee a crash site on Tuesday after striking a Lake Region school bus.

Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department along with members of the Naples Fire Department responded at around 12:14 p.m. to reports of a crash involving a school-bus near 106 Casco Road in Naples.

Deputies determined that the bus had been struck by a GMC Yukon whose driver, Jeffrey Lord, 31, of Gorham, allegedly attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle.

Local residents assisted in locating the GMC, and reported its location in a nearby driveway. Deputies responded to the location and took Lord into custody.

An investigation revealed that, as the GMC was travelling South and the bus traveled North, Lord reportedly swerved across the center line, striking the bus behind the driver’s seat, and again near the rear tire, damaging the rim.

The bus was transporting two children for recreational purposes at the time of the crash. The Naples Fire Department examined the children and determined that they were uninjured.

Lord faces charges for driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Law enforcement did not release a mugshot of Lord, but a Facebook Page belonging to a person from Gorham of the same name who appears to be the correct age includes pictures.
