Officer Curtis Grenier initiated a traffic stop of the Vespa after he observed that it had no license plate.
During the stop, the driver is alleged to have initially given a false name and birthdate before eventually providing his actual driver’s license, revealing him to be David Costa, 56, of Bangor.
When checking on the license, Grenier learned that Costa’s driving privileges had been revoked and that he was subject to an active arrest warrant.
Costa was taken into custody and transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
A search of the Vespa’s storage compartment allegedly revealed cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, and a large amount of cash.
In addition to charges related to his active warrant, Costa faces charges for aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, operating under habitual offender status, violating conditions of release, and probation violation.
