At around 9:15 p.m., Deputy Jerold Winslow conducted a routine traffic stop of a red 2021 Ram truck on Route 1 in Newcastle for an equipment violation. The driver, Stephen Treadway, 44, of Brunswick, was on probation at the time of the stop.

Deputy Winslow conducted a search of Treadway’s vehicle and allegedly discovered a 1 pound package of white powder that was later tested and verified to be cocaine.

The search also revealed $5,422 in cash, along with a digital scale, which was seized and entered into evidence.

Treadway was arrested and transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail and faces charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and violation of probation.

The Lincoln Sheriff’s Department estimated the street value of the seized drugs to be approximately $40,000.
