A wide-ranging poll from Harvard CAPS and Harris Poll examined voter views on numerous current events and policies, finding majority support for the mass deportation of illegal immigrants and also troubling levels of tolerance of political violence.

Pollsters asked 2,413 registered voters to weigh in on whether they support or oppose a series of President Donald Trump’s policies.

The survey found that overall 78 percent of voters, including 69 percent of Democrats, support deporting illegal immigrants who have committed additional crimes after their illegal entry.

A smaller, but still significant, majority of 56 percent supported deporting all illegal immigrants, regardless of whether they committed additional crimes. That 56 percent included 36 percent of Democratic voters and 54 percent of independents.

Only two policies in that section of the poll—adding work requirements to Medicaid and placing tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada—received under 50 percent approval.

Despite the significant approval for many of Trump’s individual policies, his overall approval rating was just 46 percent, while support for his handling of immigration stood at 49 percent.

Nevertheless, a slim majority of voters, 52 percent, believe Trump is an improvement over former President Joe Biden.

The poll also revealed that economic issues are the top concerns for American voters, with 43 percent saying inflation and affordability are the most important issues facing the nation.

Other issues that typically receive significant media and activist attention, such as immigration, the Israel-Hamas war, climate change, tariffs, and gun violence, were only cited as the top issue by single-digit percentages of respondents.

The expansive survey report ran 77 pages and touched on American views on numerous current topics, including political violence in the wake of the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

On this score, the results were extremely concerning.

Only 64 percent of respondents were able to say confidently that the assassination of Kirk was completely unjustified. That left 14 percent who said the assassination was somewhat unjustified (implying that it was also at least somewhat justified), and a staggering 22 percent, over one in five, admitted that they believed the assassination was at least somewhat justified.

Over a quarter of voters, 27 percent, believed that assassination attempts against Trump were at least somewhat justified.
