Three people with connections to Maine were killed over the weekend in a high-speed boating crash in the Florida Keys, authorities said.
The victims, identified as Rebecca Knight, Brenna Millet, and Craig Millet died after the vessel in which they were riding struck a channel marker near Key Largo, according to local officials.
The crash occurred late Saturday, and investigators said the impact threw all occupants into the water.
Knight, a former Maine resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Brenna and Craig Millet, who also had family and community ties in Maine, were transported to a nearby hospital, where both later died from their injuries.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is leading the investigation and has not released further details about what caused the boat to collide with the marker. Weather conditions at the time of the crash were reported to be clear.
According to one report, the trio was racing another boat at the time.
Family members and friends in Maine have begun sharing tributes on social media, remembering the victims as caring, hardworking, and deeply connected to their communities. Local officials in the Florida Keys said the crash was one of the region’s deadliest boating incidents this year.
Authorities said the investigation remains active as they gather witness statements and review evidence from the crash site.
