Two Bangor residents were arrested on Monday after they allegedly fled the scene of a drunk driving crash.

At approximately 11:43 a.m., the Bangor Police Department responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on Hammond Street.

Witnesses told police that they saw one vehicle fleeing the scene, and law enforcement began searching for the car.

Police eventually located the vehicle and identified the driver as Michele Payeur, 36, of Bangor.

Security camera footage from a home near the crash allegedly confirmed that Payeur was driving during the incident, and reportedly showed a male passenger fleeing the scene.

Nearby residents called the police to report a suspicious-looking male in the area, and officers located Nicholas Bennett, 37, of Bangor.

Bennett reportedly admitted that he was present during the crash and claimed that it happened as a result of an argument.

Police allegedly determined that Bennett was subject to bail conditions preventing him from having contact with Payeur.

Officer Samantha Ellis conducted the investigation, which resulted in charges of operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash for Payeur, and violating conditions of release for Bennett.
