Alexis De Leon, 30, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was sentenced to 60 months in prison after pleading guilty in March to drug trafficking charges.
Investigators learned that someone using the name “Leon Leon” was using a Facebook account, among other means, to contact co-conspirators and potential buyers in Maine to arrange drug distribution.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) discovered evidence leading them to believe that Leon was operating the Facebook account.
They arranged a monitored purchase of fentanyl from the account to gather evidence.
Law enforcement eventually took Leon into custody during a June 2024 traffic stop. He was found en route to Bangor with a large quantity of fentanyl. The court found that he was responsible for the transport of over 20 kilograms of fentanyl into Maine.
Two co-defendants, Ramon De Leon and Mandi Ford, also pleaded guilty and are currently awaiting sentencing.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Police assisted in the investigation.
