January 6th: A Day to Distract

The awful day is upon us.

It is a day Democrats tell us is right up there with Dec. 7, 1941 and Sept. 11, 2001.

Maybe even worse.

Elected members of Congress who weren’t even in the Capitol along with their compliant media tell us every year about all the trauma they feel.

They donated artifacts to the Smithsonian and even brought in a television producer to make the January 6th video production as dramatic as possible.

Our very democracy was at risk, we were told.

To be sure, there was not a lot of great behavior on display at the Capitol that day but there also was not an insurrection. There were violent rioters, peaceful protesters, and a significant number of federal agents and informants.

Facts be damned, the Pearl Harbor-ness and Nine-Eleven-ness of Jan. 6 have only grown in the Trump-warped brains of the gray-haired protesters who’ve found meaning in life by standing on Maine’s overpasses holding signs.

These gullible boomer liberals — doubtlessly dedicated NPR listeners — really believe that dozens, even hundreds of people died on Jan. 6.

Of course, none of them know the name of Ashli Babbitt—the unarmed civilian murdered by a cop that day and the only person who died during the Capitol Hill riot.

Babbitt, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran, was fatally shot by a U.S. Capitol Police officer while attempting to climb through a shattered window.

Four other people died around the Capitol that day for various reasons, but police officers were not murdered.

That hasn’t stopped liberal talking heads and Democrat Party apparatchiks from seizing on Jan. 6 as the political imperative to jail Trump and impose the same communist policies they had supported all along.

The fact is that many more lives were lost in the many riots following the death of George Floyd — whose autopsy report revealed he had a lethal amount of fentanyl in his blood at the time of his death. Much more property, including businesses owned by the demographics Democratic pols claim to care about very much, was destroyed. Yet these actions were encouraged by Democrats of almost every stripe.

Regardless of the actual facts, Jan. 6 remains potent fuel for stirring up the NPR crowd.

Governor Janet Mills signed into law a proclamation designating today as “A Day To Remember.” As opposed, I guess, to all those day’s she’s forgotten…

Obviously, it is all performance art. Even if the rioters had successfully taken over the Capitol those years ago it doesn’t mean they get the keys to the country.

But since the party is so concerned with democracy, yet is still content to have an autopen running the Executive Branch, let’s remember.

Let’s remember Angus King likening non-existent 2016 Russian election hacking to 9/11, then lying about what he said, and then abusing his position on the Senate Intelligence Committee to censor Facebook and Twitter critics.

Let’s remember Janet Mills claiming before her 2022 election that she wouldn’t raise taxes and push for late term abortion — before winning the election, legalizing nine-month abortion-on-demand, and hiking taxes on working Mainers.

Let’s remember that the top priority of Democratic lawmakers in 2025 appeared to be forcing young girls to compete athletically against gender dysphoric males.

Remember Secretary of State Shenna Bellows questioning the patriotism of the Maine Wire for reporting on non-citizen voting, only to admit last year that non-citizens have joined the voter rolls under her watch.

Remember the filthy homelessness camps in Portland, Bangor, Sanford, Lewiston, and Augusta — the grotesque and predictable manifestations of taxpayer slush funds handed to NGOs in the name of “compassion.”

Remember that Democrats opened our borders and lied to us about it.

Remember that Democrats in Maine threw the welcome mat out to illegal Chinese weed grows.

Remember the millions if not billions in MaineCare fraud – much of it committed by people who should not even be in the country.

Most of all, remember that Maine wasn’t always like this.
