A Massachusetts police officer flipped on the blues during a stop in neighboring New Hampshire.
Fine so far, maybe.
Then, not so much.
Problem is he’s not really a cop.
Mikel Beltran, 37, was arrested by police in Londonderry, New Hampshire, impersonating a police officer.
Beltran allegedly flashed his blues at another car, according to CBS News Boston.
Two problems – Beltran is a fired Mass cop and two, blue lights are not allowed in personal vehicles in New Hampshire.
So even if private blues were allowed in New Hampshire and cross-border authority were authorized, Beltran doesn’t hold certification as a law-enforcement officer.
Beltran was fired from Lawrence Police and suspended by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission last year.
When Londonderry officers pulled over Beltran’s vehicle, they said he was wearing a Lawrence Police jacket and showed them a Lawrence badge.
They later figured out that he was just a pretend cop who was once a real cop still playing the role.
The case is reminiscent of a recent one in York County, Maine, where a civilian sheriff’s mechanic allegedly pulled over a car while he was transporting a marked police cruiser.
Not hard to spot fake blues a mile away these days.
