The Skowhegan Police Department received a report at approximately 11:37 p.m. that a person was not breathing at a residence located at 361 West Front Street.

Officers arrived to discover a deceased woman and called the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit to assist with the investigation.

The deceased woman was transported to the Office of the Maine Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was conducted on Thursday.

Detectives worked on collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses throughout the day.

Police have determined the cause and manner of death, but they are declining to release that information or the name of the deceased until family members can be identified and informed.

Police promised to provide additional updates “when appropriate.”
