A Corinth man is facing a murder charge following a fatal shooting Saturday morning at a Main Street residence.
According to authorities, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 8:28 a.m. on Dec. 27 to a report of a shooting at 344 Main Street. Deputies arriving at the scene found 41-year-old Abigail Thomas of Corinth dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
The sheriff’s office requested assistance from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North and the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team. Thomas was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted.
Investigators say the preliminary investigation determined Thomas had been involved in an altercation with her son, 22-year-old Daniel Derosier, who also lived at the home. Derosier was taken into custody and charged with murder. He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
Corinth Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.
