WATERVILLE, Maine — Waterville police announced Tuesday that they have seized more than 16 pounds of methamphetamine and an illegal firearm following a monthlong drug investigation that culminated in multiple search warrants late last month.

Police said officers executed several search warrants at approximately 4 p.m. on Dec. 30, leading to the discovery of more than 16 pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of more than $100,000, along with an illegal firearm. The operation involved assistance from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Winslow Police Department and the Fairfield Police Department.

Authorities identified Andrew Symonevich, 48, of Waterville, as the main source of the investigation. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A offense, and illegal possession of a firearm, a Class B offense. Bail was set at $35,000, and his initial court date is scheduled for Feb. 23.

Police said the investigation remains active and that additional charges may be forthcoming.
