Alleged Drug Trafficker in Brewer Draws Animal Cruelty Charge After Dead Dog Found During Warrant Execution

The Brewer police arrested two alleged drug traffickers on Wednesday and discovered a dead dog while executing a search warrant, leading to an additional animal cruelty charge.

Sgt. Christopher Woodman of the Brewer Police Department led the execution of a search warrant related to drug trafficking operations at a Brewer residence.

Police discovered and arrested David Zabala, 40, of Brewer, and Cassandra Cote, 34, of Bangor, at the residence.

According to police, Zabala was out on bail following a prior domestic violence arrest and refused police instructions, resisting arrest.

A search of the property revealed multiple safety concerns, along with a dead dog.

Zabala faces charges of aggravated unlawful trafficking of scheduled W drugs based on an arrest warrant, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, aggravated animal cruelty, and violation of conditions of release.

Cote was arrested on an outstanding warrant for unlawful trafficking of scheduled II drugs.
