The Brewer Police Department arrested a man on domestic violence charges on Wednesday after receiving reports of an assault.

Police responded to the reports, and an investigation identified Clint Britton, 43, of Brewer, as a suspect who had allegedly assaulted a family member.

Officers responded to Britton’s home to take him into custody.

Britton was inside when police arrived, and instead of entering the home to arrest him, the police made contact via phone.

After a short phone conversation, police convinced Britton to exit the residence, and he surrendered without further incident.

He was charged with domestic violence assault and transported to the Penobscot County Jail.

Police did not specify a bail amount, but according to jail records, he remained in custody as of Friday morning.
