AUGUSTA, Maine — State Rep. Reagan Paul (R) introduced a joint resolution Thursday, in the Maine House honoring Turning Point USA founder Charles “Charlie” James Kirk, praising his faith and activism while condemning what the measure describes as his assassination in Utah last year.
Paul announced the move in a social media post, writing that she was “honored to sponsor and introduce” the resolution in the House. The measure is filed as House Paper 1485 in the 132nd Maine Legislature’s Second Regular Session and is titled, “A JOINT RESOLUTION TO HONOR THE LIFE, FAITH, LEADERSHIP AND LEGACY OF CHARLES ‘CHARLIE’ JAMES KIRK.”
In the resolution’s opening clauses, lawmakers describe Kirk as a “courageous American patriot and faithful Christian,” and state that his life was “tragically and unjustly cut short” in an act of political violence on Sept. 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. The text highlights Kirk’s conversion to Christianity as a young person and portrays him as someone who grounded his public life in daily devotion, Scripture, and prayer.
The resolution also includes personal details about Kirk’s family, identifying him as the husband of Erika Kirk and the father of two children. It then shifts into Kirk’s national political profile, noting that he founded Turning Point USA in 2012 at age 18 and asserting the organization grew into a major campus network with thousands of chapters and hundreds of thousands of members. The measure claims that Turning Point USA helped register and mobilize more than 125,000 new voters during the 2024 election, crediting the group with narrowing the youth voter gap and shaping political engagement among young Americans.
Alongside its praise for Kirk’s activism, the resolution frames his public work as rooted in First Amendment rights, arguing he embodied free speech by challenging prevailing narratives and participating in civil discourse across college campuses and media platforms. The measure further warns that his killing should be understood as a sign of growing political extremism and hatred, and it urges Americans not to let the violence deepen national division. Instead, the document calls for renewed commitment to dialogue, respectful debate, and what it describes as American principles of liberty governed by truth.
In its concluding “resolved” section, the Maine Legislature would formally condemn Kirk’s assassination and all forms of political violence, extend condolences and prayers to his family, and honor Kirk’s life and legacy as an example that inspired a generation to value liberty and stand firm in faith. The resolution also calls on Americans “regardless of party or creed” to reject political violence and recommit to civic debate grounded in respect, viewing one another as fellow citizens rather than enemies.

Thank you, Reagan Paul, for a nicely structured Resolution recognizing the work of Charles Kirk. It is hard to anticipate that your effort would not receive wide approval; however, with the Leftists comprising a majority of those voting in Augusta, your success is not assured.
