Globetrotter lifestyle guru Martha Stewart’s seen it all, but in the presence of threatened perjury she can’t deny it – Maine is her fave.
Stewart’s “no place like home,” it turns out, is Mount Desert Island, according to AOL.com, which broke the news gently to those otherwise offended.
“Martha Stewart’s Favorite Travel Destination In America Is A Charming New England Paradise,” the outlet headlines in a new feature on the fashion-and-kitchen icon.
“In Maine, Stewart owns a sprawling, wondrous summer home called ‘Skylands,” AOL says. “A three-story manor originally built by Ford Motor Co. mogul Edsel Ford, Skylands is perched along the scenic coast of Mount Desert Island, a charming New England enclave flush with forests, lakes, ponds, and hulking cliffs.”
The Rockefellers, Carnegies, and Vanderbilts all figure in the island’s history, AOL notes. No financial slouches, they.
Stewart’s luxurious estate sits beside Acadia National Park and overlooks Seal Harbor.
“My breath is still taken away by the glorious ocean view from the terrace at my home on Mount Desert Island in Maine,” she said.
Stewart takes her Maine anchor pretty seriously – she recently bought her neighbor’s house for $3 million, knocked it down and began building a pool in its place.
With that kind of serious, she must really feel Maine’s tug.
