Platner Hit with Fresh Backlash After Sharing Extremist Post

PORTLAND, Maine – Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner is facing another entirely avoidable controversy after amplifying a post from far-right figure Stew Peters, in an episode first reported by The Hill. The backlash erupted after Platner shared Peter’s message about bipartisan applause tied to President Donald Trump’s remarks on Iran, then added his own now-deleted line accusing both parties of sending “other people’s children to die in stupid wars in the Middle East.”

The problem for Platner was not merely the anti-war message. It was the fact that he chose to boost Peters at all. Peters has been described as a conspiracy theorist and extremist, and Platner’s decision to echo him handed critics fresh proof that his campaign still lacks the discipline and judgment expected of someone seeking statewide office.

"Graham Platner, a far-left Senate candidate in Maine, amplified a social media post on Thursday from a far-right conspiracy theorist well-known for viciously antisemitic commentary — before quickly deleting the statement." https://t.co/ONHHlySFgX

Platner’s team reportedly tried to clean up the mess by removing the post after the source drew scrutiny. But by then, the damage was already done. Once again, Platner had managed to turn attention away from policy and back onto himself.

And that is the real story here: this is not the first offense. It is a pattern.

Graham Platner Tries to Contain Fallout, Blames ‘Establishment’ for Attacks in Senate Race

Platner’s campaign has already been battered by controversy over resurfaced offensive Reddit posts and a tattoo he later altered after it was widely criticized for resembling Nazi-linked imagery. Those earlier scandals forced Platner into public explanations and apologies, while raising broader questions about his judgment, credibility, and readiness for a U.S. Senate race.

That history is what makes this latest episode politically toxic. A candidate who already could not afford another self-inflicted wound went out and created one anyway.

At this point, the issue is no longer one deleted post. The issue is whether Platner has learned anything at all. Every time his campaign has a chance to steady itself, another controversy drags it right back into the ditch.

For voters, the takeaway is hard to ignore: Platner is not just battling his opponents. He keeps sabotaging himself.
