FORT KENT โ€” U.S. Sen. Susan Collins issued a statement reacting to the U.S. airstrikes in Iran, pointing to what she described as the Iranian regimeโ€™s nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile development, and support for terrorist proxies as serious threats to U.S. national security, American allies, and stability in the Middle East.

โ€œThe Iranian regimeโ€™s pursuit of nuclear weapons, ballistic missile development, and support for terrorist proxies pose serious threats to Americaโ€™s national security and that of our allies, as well as to stability in the Middle East,โ€ Collins said.

Collins also said U.S. service members involved in the mission are in her prayers โ€œas they perform this mission.โ€

Looking ahead, Collins emphasized Congressโ€™s role as the situation develops, noting that extended military action requires direct engagement with lawmakers.

โ€œSustained combat operations require full engagement with Congress,โ€ she said, adding that โ€œimportant questionsโ€ will be addressed during the Senateโ€™s classified briefings with administration officials next week.
