FORT KENT — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins issued a statement reacting to the U.S. airstrikes in Iran, pointing to what she described as the Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile development, and support for terrorist proxies as serious threats to U.S. national security, American allies, and stability in the Middle East.

“The Iranian regime’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, ballistic missile development, and support for terrorist proxies pose serious threats to America’s national security and that of our allies, as well as to stability in the Middle East,” Collins said.

Collins also said U.S. service members involved in the mission are in her prayers “as they perform this mission.”

Looking ahead, Collins emphasized Congress’s role as the situation develops, noting that extended military action requires direct engagement with lawmakers.

“Sustained combat operations require full engagement with Congress,” she said, adding that “important questions” will be addressed during the Senate’s classified briefings with administration officials next week.
