TRENTON, Maine – An early morning fire heavily damaged the Open Hearth Inn in Trenton on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

According to officials, the Trenton Fire Department responded at approximately 2:55 a.m. to a reported structure fire at the inn, located at 1147 Bar Harbor Road. When crews arrived, they encountered a well-involved fire that had spread rapidly throughout the building.

Two individuals were inside the inn at the time of the fire and were able to get out safely. No injuries were reported.

The Trenton Fire Department was assisted at the scene by numerous area departments, including Ellsworth, Lamoine, Hancock, Sullivan, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Brooklin, Mariaville, Otis, Eastbrook, Sedgwick, Sorrento, and Surry.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene. Due to the extent of the damage and structural collapse, officials said the origin and cause of the fire could not be definitively determined. However, the investigation indicates the fire was accidental.
